Taxis
April 30, 2004 the European Union issued a directive on measuring equipment, sweeping changes in the certification of the equipment used in the field of legal metrology. To this equipment include taxis!
Summary of the law
The introduction of the new law began in October 2006, while there is a 10-year transition period for products that have already been approved prior to adoption. In the case of a taximeter, which means that all new meters must comply with the new rules in one form or another:
If taximeter:
Taximeter offered for sale for the first time since October 2006, is to be marked “M” (for MID), that is, it corresponds to the MID. We’ll show you how this labeling later, as an example –
Taksometry for sale before that date must comply with the “National Certificate of Conformity” approved earlier.
For example, in Estonia, at the moment, if the new taximeter is not marked marked “M”, it can not be sold and installed in the vehicle cab. That’s what the law says.
** To January 16, 2016 all taxis in Estonia shall be marked “M” **
Measurement – History
MID before every European country had its own local rules for measurement instruments. Here in Estonia, we had a “certificate of conformity”. MID, like other European rules, designed to create a certification system that applies equally to all EU countries, so it means that national standards should be replaced with standards that apply throughout the EU. That’s why you see the signs “M” on the meter across Europe, including on the taximeter. MID actually replaces the national standards.
MID suggests that taxis?
Directive on measuring instruments tell us about the important features of taximeter, including how they work, how accurate they should be, and how much should be reliable. It also tells us how we need to ensure that the products that we supply are working in this standard. Result of compliance with these rules is marked “M” on the taximeter giving authorities, taxi operators and the public assurance that the meter complies with the law and it can be trusted.
.. but how do you know that the sign is legal and correct?
Description label “M” on the taximeter.
Each taximeter MID compliant (ie, each type of taximeter offered for sale since October 2006) shall:
.. delivered with a declaration of conformity, which shows how a particular taximeter corresponds MID, as well as any other guidelines, applying to it.
.. have, an marked ‘M’, details:
